It's not about the bike . . . it's all about the wheels!
Why wheels matter. Next to a good-fitting bicycle, wheels are the most important cycling purchase you can make.
The right combination of hubs, rims, spokes, and tires will do more for your cycling enjoyment and performance than the
latest lighter-than-air handlebar, pedals, bar, whatever. Cycling wheels are the most important part of your bicycle, because
we place so many requirements on them, including:
- the sole contact point with the road (keep the rubber side down!)
- aerodynamic - helping more of your watts result in speed
- lightweight - for climbing the local hills or keeping up with your inner weight weenie
- stiff - for high-speed cornering, out-of-the saddle climbing, and city limit or finish line sprinting
- compliant - making those long rides comfortable, even if the road is rough
- durable - lasting for mile after mile
- true - because you want to spend time riding your bike, not fixing it
- cool-looking - everyone likes a sharp set of wheels!
